Cocteau twins are my favourite ever band. theyre just really really brilliant! they were from Scotland in the UK from around the early 1980's up until they split up in 1997 recording 8 proper albums and releasing countless EP's. they were an 'indie' band in the truest sense - until the very end of their career, they never released singles per se - all their EP's up until the end of their career consisted of new material not on their albums. whereas most acts would release several album tracks as singles to promote it. i wish i had the chance to see them live, but alas im too young.
the vocalist, Liz Fraser is just amazing! aside from having a beautiful voice, she was also really creative. alot of the time she didnt actually sing in any language - she went into the recording studio and would just improvise and make vocal noises, which is pretty unique and liberating. their guitarist, robin Guthrie is also brilliant. i rate him more highly than all the other guitar legends out there (Jimi Hendrix, Slash, David Gilmour, Jimmy Page, John Squire, Johnny Marr etc).
Manic Street Preachers are probably the most important band to me, purely because i was young when i got into them and for a while, they meant EVERYTHING to me. they (as in both their music and lyrics, but also them as people) got me into all sorts of things - politics, literature, art. the band were essentially a cultural and political manifesto. i wouldnt be the same person if it wasnt for them.
other bands i really like (not as important as the two above):
Radiohead
Smashing Pumpkins
Bruce Springsteen
New Order
Joy Division
Bat For Lashes
Bloc Party
The Verve
Orbital
Editors
School of Seven Bells
Doves (one of their songs, 'Darker' appeared on 24, series 1!)
The Cure
The Clash
British Sea Power
Asobi Seksu
Gemma Hayes
Kate Bush
Film School
The Smiths
The Stone Roses
Delays
The Music
Blur
Oasis (pre-2000)
Pink Floyd
David Gilmour
Robin Guthrie
Pixies
Sigur Ros
Goldfrapp
Mercury Rev
David Bowie
Depeche Mode
Echo and The Bunnymen
U2 |

That's always a difficult question...
Metallica Thrash/Heavy Metal
Kamelot Power Metal
Iron Maiden Heavy Metal
Scar Symmetry Gothenburg Metal
Nocturnal Rites Thrash/Power Metal
Iron Savior US Power Metal
Angel Dust Thrash/Power Metal
Mercenary Thrash/Gothenburg Metal
Stratovarius Power Metal
Iced Earth US Power Metal
Dezperadoz Western Thrash Metal
Twilightning Power Metal
Amorphis Death/Heavy Metal
Dark Tranquillity Gothenburg Metal
Rammstein Industrial Metal
Symphony X Progressive Metal
Artillery Thrash Metal
Solution.45 Gothenburg Metal
Masterplan Progressive/Power Metal
Ayreon Progressive Metal
At Vance Power Metal
Sodom Thrash Metal
Although I also love classic rock (ZZ Top, The Eagles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Toto, America, etc)
But I'm pretty much a metal head... it shows, doesn't it? |
