Yeah, but in country and bluegrass music its called a dog-bass, or stand-up bass. Just like a violin is a fiddle.

I play baritone in jazz band and concert band. I play bass as a hobby, but I haven't gotten lessons (yet I can still play a few Metallica songs).

So envious of you guys. I have a guitar (it's very pretty, I look at it sometimes) but I can't play it  I'm rubbish.
I did play a mean recorder when I was in primary school tho - lol!

The recorder and the alto saxophone have the same notes, so you could probably play the saxophone too.

I think I'm gonna learn to play the dog-bass... but it's so expensive. I was browsing the local music store today, and the best used one was still $1200...

Yeah those are pretty expensive. I got a great deal on my alto saxophone though. I think I got it for $200, used for only one year. It plays great and looks great too.

What can I say, it's a curse - lol
Must really start learning my guitar again, can play the first few chords of Heart Shaped Box - that's about it. I wish I would have learnt when I was younger. Would have really liked to have played the drums too, 5p1k3 (one of the other newbies) can play drums, and the piano (not at the same time - lol) - so jealous!

Yeah so, I spent ALL DAY today learning to play 'Going to California' on my mandolin. And I think I'm getting it!
