The shock of the whole day I imagine. Killing Chappelle, Chase's arm etc...

He cut his buddies arm off with an axe. I'd cry too (although I think I'd cry more if it was my arm). He also had to shoot his boss/'kinda-friend' (the only thing I can think of when I remember that, is Homer from the Simpsons when he said "Kill my boss? Do I dare love out the American dream?") He was addicted to smack, his daughter almost got killed (what else is new?) He was tired, hungry, cracky, etc. Frankly, I would have just curled up in the fetal position behind some rock long before all that.

The whole events of the day must have taken a toll on him, and then to cap it off, he probably knew that Kim was gone. Tears of joy were streaming down my face though.

I've got to admit I never really understood why he was crying either.  Yes, he's just had a hellish day, and yes he just cut some guys arm off, and yes he did kill Chapelle, but he's been through so much worse before and we've never seen a tear from him.

I think it was just a convinient way to end the series than thinking up some awful twist like there normally is.  For example, being kidnapped by the Chinese, or setting an awful example to children by walking on train tracks. Tut tut.

I just finished season 3 for the first time. Forum n00b!

I think that Jack was crying because the whole day was over and because he had finally come to accept that Kim was gone.

He knew that he wasn't the one to be there for Kim anymore, that job was held by Chase.

Personally, that whole last episode was devestating. President Palmer...Chase...Tony and Michelle!  Sad Was so sad...

Haven't seen 4, 5 or 6 yet, watching 7 though.

I loved series 3. Dunno if I can put it over series 1 though. That finale was one of the greatest TV events I have ever seen.

I just wish I was watching it from the beginning...  Rolling Eyes

you HAVE to get season 4 ... by far the best season, next to season 3 ( which is my favorite)

but season 4 ... is one that was made for the fans.  and it's way better then 5, and especially 6

and, another thing about jack crying ... it was probably more of a relief thing.  he was addicted to heroine, only could tell chase, and a heroine addiction is not something you just get over.  now that it's out in the open, he's getting treatment for it, and what is has caused him.... once he finally got to sit alone, and gather his thought ...

he just broke down

thats' why season 4 is so good!  he's a differen tjack in the beginning,  a new love, a new carrer, and a new life ... which all goes to hell once he steps back into CTU in the first episode

I don't think it was that they couldn't think of another last minute twist, I think they really wanted to end this season a little differently. I forget where I heard it, it was either in the companion book or on the DVD commentary, but they said because they had ended the last two seasons on such shock endings, they really wanted this one to have a conclusion.

I thought it was a fantastic ending, it really humanized Jack, which people can sometimes forget when he is going gun-ho for so long. It really completed the season because you could just feel all the horrible things that had happened in the last 24 hours come crashing down.

Thats what Jack is all about, putting all emotion aside and finishing the mission at all costs. That means that at some point he does have to process those emotions, especially when he bottles them up, so many horrible things for so long.

One of the best endings imo, after 1 and 5, they have all been fantastic though lol thats one things you can say for this show

Going over all the seasons, possibly with the exception of the finale of 6, Jack hasn't had a heck of a lot of time to reflect on each day. S3 is the only time we ever really see a relatively mentally-healthy, normal human being process what all has happened in the last 24 hours.

His day was as follows: Trying to kick a serious heroin addiction, Claudia getting offed (he did seem to really care for her), betraying people who were trying to help him, executing a completely innocent Chappelle for no reason other than to give into a terrorists demands, worrying about his daughter and wanting to be a father to her when she really needs him, finally killing the woman who killed his wife, and being sad to hear that David Palmer - a close friend of his - would not be running again for the Presidency.

And all this was up against the issues that wouldn't leave him - notably his wife's death and the idea that life has been insane since. He knew that even though he was once a family man with a good job, now his live would never be the same again.

dont forget cutting off his partners hand haha and earlier in the day he had to put a gun to his head and pull the trigger, not sure if he was about to kill him
oh and earlier he talked the guard into killing himself during the russian roulette game(there was no other option but still)

hmm what else

I think a big part of this season was his comparison to chase and that you can not have a real life and still do this job, and just an hour before chase told him he was going to quite and try to have a normal life with jacks daughter, when jack knows that he'll never be able to do that

that was really a great setup to season 4, because after that realization in 3, he ends up out of CTU, with a normal job (sorta lol) and a girl and living the life that he thought he could never have

*being slightly sarcy*

I always thought it wasn't really Jack crying ...it was Kiefer.  He was crying due to the alimghty mess Season 3 had been compared to Seasons 1 & 2.

...& they just happened to be filming at the time.

Hey, you would cry too if you left your sandwich in the fridge and then had to put a severed arm with a virus attatched in there with it. That was the finest sandwich this country has ever seen.

Not to mention he was holding Saunders screaming daughter 2 inches away from a guaranteed death sentence, that would affect ANYONE, regardless if it was you that ordered it.

I don't see how you guys can say he has faced worse though. This virus was potentially going to wipe out America. It already killed 800 people within a very short period of time and no doubt would kill a whole lot more if they didn't kidnap Jane. This threat was far more severe than the nuke in Season 2 and Season 1 isn't even close.

Jack knew the entire 24 hours that they were on a teetering point and it could go over at any moment and everyone could be dead within a matter of hours. This knowledge caught up with him at the end and the realization that even though they stopped it the fact is millions of people almost died.

Oh Btw, I guess you could call me a Kim supporter too. I can see why people hate her storylines but I don't mind them at all. She is really nice to look at anyway.....REALLY NICE.  Wink

I think its just the whole days events that accumilated and Jack had to do some things that he might not have been proud of... IE Ryan Chappelle etc
