The only 2 things I didn't like were:

1. Jack whispered way too much. Can't he use a normal tone of voice??
2. Jack should've put up more of a fight to try and keep Benton alive. He let him go waaayy too easily... that's not very Bauer-like.

I hear you there! He did give up Benton far to easy... And he cracked under torture! Like wtf?? Come on Jack!! Get back in the game!

No, he didn't crack under torture? Jack doesn't crack under torture!
He saw Benton flashing the mirror at him, and he took that as a signal "send them to me," so he told the guys that the children were in the woods, but he was sending them into a trap, because Benton had a gun and he killed them all! Very Happy

I loved how Benton psyched out the bad guys....
They're at the..........
They're at........
They're....

GO TO H*LL!!!

CLASSIC!!!

It was REALLY good.  Very different than I expected, but it sets up the new season perfectly.  New characters, new intrigue...new moles?

And...what's 24 without a good ol' fashioned torture?   Wink

A nice moment was when the boy Willie put his hand on Jack--THAT was nice.  The kids were great!

All in all, it was worth the wait.

Don't buy the DVD. It's right on the Fox website.

Also I think the prequel was great!!

Spoiler:

Again, I'm disappointed that Benton did die. He seemed like a great character to include for the rest of the season, but I guess this stuff happens for a reason. I also like the idea of President Taylor, first woman. I think that's great. I think we have a great season to look forward to.

Here we go:

I think it was bloody awful.  As a unique piece of action drama, it was good.  It was hard hitting and made some very good points about issues that are really going on in the world today.  Troubles in Africa, a new president in the USA and even highlighting perhaps shortfalls in the UN, but that's all irrelevant.

24 has historically been Jack kicking Muslim terrorist ass, and for that reason alone I can't possibly imagine where they're hoping to go with it.  It's not a seventh day of 24, it's the first day of something new.

I was a little disappointed to meet a whole lot of new charectars which are obviously going to be around for the majority of the next 24 episodes, without seeing any old faces.  Although seeing Daniels and Lennox was deffinatley good, but even they were portrayed in different lights.  No more double crossing from Lennox and Daniels appeared somewhat upset.

Perhaps it's time for 24 to move on to something else, maybe the market for kicking the "traditional" terrorist in the butt is gone.  Maybe I'm old fashioned and even more sad for writing this, however, I fear the 24 we love is changing dramatically if not gone all together.

I really would like to know what's going on with this culture that everyone in television and cinema feels it so deeply necessary to change things.  What's wrong with the good old way?

Come on, we've had 6 series of pretty good stuff - they have the right recipe in their hands and they're choosing to ignore it.  It's like adding a slab of butter to a delicate souflee.

End of grumpy old man rant. lol

Josh

Of course this wasn't going to be vintage 24. But for what it was, a TV movie i thought it was awesome

They only had 2 hours so they didn't want to pack too much into it. Afterall it's basically just an intro to season 7.

Loved the character of Benton. Shame they killed him off but they did that well.

And I'm just waiting for the scene where some low-level thugs try torture Jack and then they see his body and Jack makes some sort of crack about how it wont work.  Very Happy

I thought it was ok, it was easily a lot different to regular 24. Jack had his regular awesomeness though, but it was just all building up to the seasons return, and the gap wasn't that big to fill, but was still a good job.

I'm sorry but I wholeheartedly disagree.

24 is about Jack Bauer, not about terrorism per-sé. Remember Season 1? You could say that the Drazens were terrorists but they probably fit better under the description of "Serbian Paramilitary" or something like that, when Jack and Palmer intervened, then they tried to retaliate for that. But did we get threats to the entire LA population? no we didn't, it was an assassination attempt.

I love Season 2, and it's probably my favorite. We get the muslim terrorists for the first time, but you can't keep recycling the same old stuff. It gets weary and boring. Season 6 for example has so many stories rehashed for the sake of it and it ultimately doesn't work. I still like it a lot but let's see...

Muslim Terrorists? Check (S2, S4, S6)
Nuclear Threat? Check (S2, S4, S6)
25th Amendment? Check (S2, S4, S6)
CTU Mole (or assumption)? Check (S1, S3, S4, S5, S6)
Attack on CTU? Check (S2, S5, S6)
Comatose President? Check (S4, S6)

Anyway, Redemption's rebels are going to be part of the bad guys of S7, so one could say that there's some terrorism in that. Also Tony was going to smash some planes onto anothers, guess that's pretty terrorist-like too.

Anyway, I loved Redemption. It's a fresh start which finally puts Bauer somewhere else than Los Angeles for a change and introduces us to a lot of new and interesting characters. The story is well written and involving and in the end,  Jonas Hodges is starting to shape up to be a hell of a bad guy, Edward Vossler, the Secret Service mole could be interesting (even if they're reusing plots), I suppose that Roger Taylor is going to have a bit of trouble later due to Vossler, maybe Samantha Roth will too.

We'll see soon enough. January 13th seems so far away Sad.

I liked the deeper, more thoughtful Jack in Redemption.  I'll miss CTU, but, in the past few seasons, a lot of the best action has been in Washington, anyway.

You've gotta remember, jack is nothing nlike the Jack in seasons 5-6, he's more thoughtful.

I noticed that too. He seems to be more emotional, almost. And he really is to the point of having nothing to lose.

True. It was really clever when he gave Kim's present away. It shows he's beyond everything.

I was really wondering about that part... I mean, he got it for Kim, it means he is still thinking about her, and apparently some part of his mind still wants to reconnect and make things right, but maybe the other part of him knows it's all too far gone now. Giving the scarf away, is surely a way of showing he is entering a whole new aspect of his mindset. I wonder if that thought and action will be mentioned when/if he encounters her in S7...
