Season 4 had some great action but it seemed to lack a coherent plot. Way to many threats that were very unrealistic (kidnapping, nuclear plants, shooting down airforce 1, the 'football') so... was the action worth the inconsistent plot?
I think it was at times. It had a good start and slowed down when Chloe was fired... then picked up when Tony came back... then slowed back down... then Michelle and Chloe joined in and it had a strong finish.
Thoughts? |

I think season 4 was great, it had, in my opinion, the best ending for a 24 season yet, with Jack faking his death. |

^ True that.
I liked season 4 really. Unlike most shows that seem to sink around the third/fourth season, i thought 24 finished off strong. It did somewhat 'lag' around the middle but the ending was great nonetheless. |

Season 4 rocked I thought and at the stage it was on was in my thoughts a good change up from seasons 1-3. |

Day 4 was, on first viewing with only one hour per week, the weakest of all seasons. Mercifully, I purchased the DVD collection because I'm a completist and watched it all in about three days... and thankfully found it much better than I remembered.
On television, watching it staggered per week, it became very identical: each episode, Jack would go somewhere, get shot at, and the clock would tick over. Next week, Jack would escape, go somewhere else, get shot at, and the clock would tick over again. Next week, Jack would escape again, go to another place, and get shot some more... rinse, repeat and you've got Day 4 on a weekly basis.
Watching on DVD, however, Day 4 all fits. The pace is relentless and the action heavy, but the plot is amazing: we begin the Chinese saga; we face the show's first major singular enemy in Habib Marwan; we have the introduction of Jack's new love, Audrey; we have closure on the Tony/Michelle love story; we have a new CTU introduced and new important characters like Edgar and Curtis make their presence felt. Charles Logan, perhaps the most influential character ever, is also introduced and makes a huge impact on the world of Jack Bauer: he's responsible for Jack's apparent death!
A few things struck me when viewing it for the third time on DVD, however. There are some episodes, like the one directly after Air Force One is shot down, that have only one major plot (Jack in the desert getting the football before Marwan). Sure, the pace of this one plot is neck-breaking, but it feels like less of an episode and more of a "part" because of the concentration on one location.
But with the awesome season ending and the emotion between Jack and Audrey (especially after Jack orders the death of Paul Raines), Day 4 is essential viewing and a strong addition to the show. The big action set-pieces, like rescuing Heller, are more than compensated for in moments such as Erin's daughter's suicide. |

Season 4 was my favorite. It had great action, great acting, and introduced some of my favorite characters. Finally the actor who played Marwon was superb! |

Great to see people finally supporting Day 4! While I prefer Day 5, I know it's an underrated season. |

Day 4 was not my favourite season, but it did have my favourite episodes in it. I LOVE the episode were Jack kills Paul, then Audrey hates him and everything is so sad and awkward after. The death faking thing at the end is pretty cool too. |

Jack did not kill Paul Raines. Rather, he made the doctors leave Paul in order to get the necessary information to find Marwan & save the U.S.
Furthermore, the end of Season 4 (last 10 minutes) is a classic. |

Okay, my mistake. I guess what I meant to say is that Jack killed Paul by demanding that the doctors stop working on him, even though they said that if they stopped, he would die. |

He was the reason he died but he didn't kill him.
I liked Season 4, the ending was great and Marwan was a good villian. |

I don't think Marwan was a really good villian, you found him out way too early in the season.
Like in season 3, first you think it's the Salazars, then Amador, and then you find out it's Saunders.
In season 4 there's Navi Araz for a short bit, then you go right to Marwan. |

I never thought of that. I really need to watch season 4 again, and I guess that's as good a reason as any. (Like I actually need a reason to watch 24) |

Yeah, that was pretty cool. I actually didn't see that coming. When Jack said he was calling the one person he could trust, I was thinking Chloe. |

To tell you the truth, I was thinking Chase Edmunds. And to be even more accurate, I was hoping for Chase |

Chase? Hey! I never even thought of him! That's better than my Chloe theory. (I mean really, what could she have done anyways, except link some satellites or some crap like that.) |

Yeah, but he probably wouldn't have good enough use of his arm to be of any good to Jack in a situation like that. |

It was 18 months later, and Chase may be right handed. |

But I think it still takes two hands to be of any good, especially for reloading and whatnot. |

Today, if your hand is amputated and you get into surgery soon enough while the hand itself is in good shape, they can stich it back and you can have full use in less than a year. It requires several operations but in the end, you have your arm again. I know this for a fact because we had a guy in the core whose arm got cut off and after several operations it's in good shape.
Anyway, that's the case with Chase. He got into operation pretty fast and the hand wasn't damaged. |
